In Gütersloh police officers were initially organized in the Bielefeld IPA branch.
When in 1979 first contacts came up between officers from Gütersloh and Chateauroux (France), the Gütersloh IPA did not yet exist.
It was a letter fom the Chateauroux mates adressed to the "IPA in Gütersloh" that not only causes the first invitation of our French friends, but also the immediate foundation of Gütersloh IPA branch on December 4, 1979, the 51 branch of Nordrhein-Westfalen.

25 officers, 13 of them former members of the Bielefeld branch, followed the foundation invitation. In 1998 the number of members outnumbered 200 for the first time.

Up to now mor then 20 exchange visits to and from our French colleages have taken place, not to count the numerous private meetings. Each year we meet us, once in Germany, once in France.

Contacts as close as to France were made in 1980 with Britisch police officers from Broxtowe, another Gütersloh twin-town. Here the regular exchages have proven very fruitfull as well.
The many meetings and visits have produced bounds of friendship and familiarity nobody would miss today.

Mr. Uwe Querhammer(+), our long chairman, too a leading part in building up all these friendships. With his unique efforts, skill and exellent connections to personalities in the Gütersloh district he has brought Gütersloh branch further on a good deal.

Colleagues of Graudenz (Grudziadz), the Polish twin-town of Gütersloh, were contacted through the last chairman, Udo Klessmann. Presently officers from Falun (Sweden) are being approached in the same proven way requesting for international contact.

Annually parties as for instance our New Year's event, the summer- party with our collegues of the twin-towns or the Beaujoulais Night are highligths of our local branch activities. A number of further happenings are organized in other towns of Gütersloh  council,.
